Arashi attend the press conference for 24-Hour Television 35 「Ai wa Chikyuu wo Sukuu」
On June 26th, Arashi attended the press conference for NTV’s annual charity program, ‘24-Hour Television 35 Ai wa Chikyuu wo Sukuu‘. Each of the members, who will be serving as this year’s main personality for the program, expressed their feelings regarding their big role.
During the press conference, Arashi met with announcers Hattori Shinichi and Suzue Nana, who will be the general MCs, and actress Aragaki Yui, who was chosen as the charity personality for the program. Ninomiya Kazunari smiled and he said, ”It’s starting to seem real,” while Matsumoto Jun showed his spirit saying, “I want to get together and do it real soon.”
Arashi was the main personality for ‘24-Hour Television’ two times in the past, in 2004 and 2008. When asked about their secret to overcome the 24 hours, Ohno Satoshi mischievously said, “I’m still young,” while Aiba Masaki blurted, “I don’t feel it’s very long.” Sakurai Sho added, “We’re not at a stance to overcome it. Most times, we tend to feel it, so even 4 years ago, it went by really fast.”
Since this year’s theme is “Mirai” (“Future”), Arashi’s hope for the future has been heightened. Aiba stated, “It changes with what we do now. By undergoing all kinds of actions, and planting seeds, I think the future will change.” Matsumoto expressed, “I feel the future is something you can choose. It changes by what you become aware of, and how you take action.”
Sakurai showed a sense of vocation with, “I want a future where children will be smiling. In order to do that, I hope the adults will feel the future by watching this program.”
To discover Japan’s “future”, Arashi planned trips all over Japan for the program, and will introduce “Japan’s famous songs that gave me a future”. Ninomiya gave the appeal of the program saying, “Since it’s a theme that allows us to think about and look into the future, we want to positively hold on to the word ‘future’ and have fun this year.”

Arashi to be the main personality for this year’s “24時間テレビ”
On “Arashi ni Shiyagare SP” which was aired on January 1st, it was announced that Arashi will be the main personality for NTV’s “24-Hour Television” charity telethon this year.
Usually, the main personality for “24-Hour Television” is announced during spring or summer, but this year, Arashi members will start preparations for “24-Hour Television” on New Year’s Day for the support of the Tohoku earthquake disaster areas and toward their recovery.
On the show, Arashi members commented,
“The reason why we are making this announcement on the New Year’s Day is that we thought there is an important thing that we need to reflect upon once again, and we should not forget, especially on today, when we greet the New Year.” – Sakurai Sho
“On March 11th of last year, the great earthquake struck eastern Japan. People in the disaster areas are working hard toward the recovery even at this moment.” – Aiba Masaki
“However, cold winter is still going on, and the brutalest season will come to the disaster areas soon. That is why we are starting the ‘24-Hour Television’ today.” – Matsumoto Jun
“We can not take back the past. There is nothing we can do about the past, however, we still can make our future. We would like to think not only about the disaster, but also about the several problems that are happening currently in Japan, with everybody.” – Ninomiya Kazunari
“This will be the third time for us, Arashi, to take part as the main personality for ‘24-Hour Television’. We will put all the effort into it by making good use of our experiences from the past!” – Ohno Satoshi
As Ohno mentioned, Arashi was the main personality for the “24-Hour Television” two previous times, in 2004 and in 2008, and this year will be their third time as the main personality for the program.
